I can't but express the excitement I've got from having attended the third annual Global Education Conference (GEC). This has been a great event, even though I could not attend all the sessions. I have a great appreciation for those whose efforts and talents have brought together so many valuable people and resources. Excellent experience with so many aspects to consider: education, integration, collaboration, diversity, solidarity, respect and much more! So, what is Global Education Conference? GEC is a free week-long online event bringing together educators and innovators from around the world. This year it was held Monday, November 12 through Friday, November 16, 2012 (Saturday, November 17th in some time zones). GEC is a collaborative, inclusive, world-wide community initiative involving educators and organizations at all levels as well as students (have you ever thought of 13-14 aged students presenting their information at such a level? But they did cope with the challenge!). GEC has been designed to significantly increase opportunities for building education-related connections around the globe while supporting cultural awareness and recognition of diversity. Both pedagogy and technology play significant supporting roles in this event, but this is neither an ICT conference nor a general education conference. Individual tools and content–area subjects are addressed within the context of 21st century skills–based projects and initiatives that present global opportunities for connecting, collaborating, and taking action. The entire conference was held online using the Blackboard Collaborate platform which is quite easy to use and allows you to participate in sessions. I strongly believe that GEC is an excellent opportunity for our selfeducation and selfdevelopment. The most important is that it is a chance to all of us who have something to share! I'm really pity, I was not able to attend all the sessions I wished and participate in the online discussions, but it's great that GEC gives a possibility to watch the recordings. If you are interested in it you can do it as well. Here is the link http://www.globaleducationconference.com/page/2012-global-education-conference-recording-links-and-information | |
